How grading works
These are the rules behind every SlipRelay record. They're the same for every seller, and sellers can't turn them off.
Where results come from
When a game goes final, SlipRelay reads the final score from ESPN's public scoreboard and grades the pick from it. We check for finished games about every 10 minutes, starting 2 hours after the scheduled start.
Which picks grade themselves
- Sports: NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball, WNBA, MLB and NHL.
- Bet types: spreads (for example "Bills -3.5"), moneylines ("Chiefs ML") and full-game totals ("Bills o44.5").
- Everything else is graded by the seller: player props, parlays, pick'em picks (no odds), soccer, UFC and anything we can't match to a game.
Canceled, postponed and unclear games
- Canceled games are voided. Nothing is posted, and the seller gets an email.
- Postponed or suspended games that aren't played within 48 hours of the scheduled start are voided. Makeups within 2 days are graded normally.
- Doubleheaders are graded from the game closest to the pick's game time.
- If the score feed is down, grading waits. A pick is never graded from missing data.
- If a game can't be matched to a final score within a day of its start, for example because a team name is ambiguous, the pick is marked needs a hand grade and the seller grades it.
When a result locks
- Graded from the final score: locked right away. The seller can't change it. If the score feed was wrong, the seller contacts us and we correct it from the official score.
- Graded by the seller: can be corrected for 24 hours, for example a misclicked win or loss. After 24 hours it locks for good.
Nothing is deleted
- Every pick stays in the seller's history, including losses.
- Picks can't be deleted. A pick that shouldn't count, such as a cancelled game or a held pick that never went out, is marked void. Voided picks stay in the history but don't count in the record.
- A graded loss can't be turned into a void after it locks.
- Every grade and every correction is written to a log with the time it happened.
Pushes
A push (the line lands exactly, like "Bills -3" winning by 3) shows in the record as the third number, for example 42-29-2. A push doesn't count as a win or a loss and doesn't move units.
Units and ROI
- A win pays the stake at the posted odds: 1 unit at -110 wins 0.91 units, and 1 unit at +150 wins 1.5 units. A loss costs the stake.
- ROI is units won divided by units risked.
- Picks posted without odds (pick'em style) count in the win-loss record, but not in units or ROI.
What sellers post
Every result is posted to the same places the pick went, wins and losses alike. Records shown on SlipRelay cards come from these rules, not from numbers a seller types in.
